Grinding away...

The scarcity of daylight in one's daily routine naturally makes one a little more introspective and melancholic in mood but so does the infrequency at which I interact with my peers...everyone's been busy with uni work/exams this period that last weekend was quieter than normal...nonetheless I was able to check out a couple of cool record stores in Hamburg, of which there are many, and wander through the Museum für Kunst & Gewerbe (which is currently showing an exhibition about the phenomenon of Ikea) and the Hamburger Kunsthalle (which houses a great collection of classical and modern art)...

There's a new work experience student in the office, 15-year-old Joshua, who has been my understudy for some tasks but also someone younger in the office I can chat with given that the husband and wife architect duo are often busy. Work has been hectic in the office often having to make models and sketches intensively right up until the boss has to leave for the meeting but it's kept me sharp. During the model-making process the boss and I are in constant dialogue about composition, forms, massing options when preparing items to show the client and it's invigorating to know that different solutions can be discussed.

Went to watch a new comedy film called 'Soul Kitchen' at the cinema last night with a few people I knew and didn't know, but it was refreshing to finally have some sort of social time outside of work...Hamburg city is well represented in this film about a restaurant in the under-developed area of Wilhelmsburg, so go watch if you want to know how cool Hamburg can be...

And so the snow persists...as does my frustrating attempts to converse in fluent German...
